The 2022-2023 season is almost here. There will be 272 games played over 18 weeks. The Miami Dolphins have the 14th hardest strength of schedule. Let’s break down each game on Miami’s schedule.
In 2021 the expectation for the Miami Dolphins was playoffs. Another winning season without a playoff berth was not satisfactory for Miami’s top brass. And so they made several key offseason changes. Firstly by firing head coach Brian Flores and much of the offensive coaching staff. They then brought in Mike McDaniel to be the Miami Dolphins’ 14th head coach. New coaches weren’t going to be enough though as Miami’s offense still had several holes. Star players, Tyreek Hill & Terron Armstead, as well as other key pieces such as Connor Williams, Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, & Cedrick Wilson, were brought in to fill those holes. Will their revamped offense and a lights-out defense be enough to get Miami not only back to the postseason, but get their first playoff win since 2000?
Week 1 vs New England Patriots
Sunday, September 11 | 1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
For the third straight year, the Miami Dolphins will be kicking off their season by facing division rival, the New England Patriots. Miami has beaten New England each of the past three times they have played. QB Tua Tagovailoa will look to keep his 3-0 streak alive vs Patriot’s head coach Bill Belichick.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (1-0)
Week 2 @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday, September 18 | 1:00 PM | M&T Bank Stadium
The Miami Dolphins’ defense neutralized Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens’ offense in Week 10 of the 2021 season. Tua didn’t play in the first half due to a finger injury, but after backup QB Jacoby Brissett sustained an injury of his own in the 3rd quarter, Tua came in to lead the Dolphins to a stunning 22-10 upset on a nationally televised Thursday night game. Miami should look to use the same defensive game plan as they did last year until Lamar Jackson can show he can overcome it. With a stifling defense and a revamped offense, Miami should have similar if not better results in Week 2 when they travel to Baltimore.
Game Prediction: Dolphins win (2-0)
Week 3 vs Buffalo Bills
Sunday, September 25 | 1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
The Buffalo Bills have beaten the Miami Dolphins each of the last seven times they have played. Most analysts have Week 3 marked as a win for Buffalo, whom many see as favorites to win the AFC. Until Miami can prove otherwise it would not be responsible to predict a Dolphins win.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Lose (2-1)
Week 4 @ Cincinnati Bengals
Thursday, September 29 | 8:15 PM | Paycor Stadium
The Miami Dolphins in Week 4 will be facing the 2021 AFC Champions the Cincinnati Bengals. The Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals have two of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL in Tyreek Hill & Jaylen Waddle and Ja’Marr Chase & Tee Higgins. This game very well may come down to which defense can slow down the opposing pair of WRs.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Lose (2-2)
Week 5 @ New York Jets
Sunday, October 9 | 1:00 PM | MetLife Stadium
Much like the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets have been busy adding talent over the past couple of offseasons. In fact, the Jets are much more talented than most realize. If QB Zach Wilson continues to develop, the Jets will soon gain respect around the league. However, they still have some holes on the defense which Miami’s speedy offensive weapons should easily expose.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (3-2)
Week 6 vs Minnesota Vikings
Sunday, October 16 | 1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
The Minnesota Vikings have a good roster, a very good roster. Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Kirk Cousins make for a very scary offense. In 2021, they were terrible on 3rd down conversions. Their defense was also 31st in yards given up, and 32nd in points given up at the end of the first half of games. Minnesota also has a new coaching staff that may not be as good as the past regime.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (4-2)
Week 7 vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday, October 23 | 8:20 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the best defenses in the NFL. They recently added one of the best defensive minds in the NFL to their coaching staff in former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, who is now their linebackers coach. Offensively the Steelers are riddled with question marks and holes at every level. QB Mitchell Trubisky is taking over for retired QB Ben Roethlisberger, their receiving corps is lacking, and their offensive line is unknown at every position along the line.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (5-2)
Week 8 @ Detroit Lions
Sunday, October 30 | 1:00 PM | Ford Field
There isn’t much to say about the Detroit Lions. Detroit might have the most entertaining head coach in the NFL in Dan Campbell. Despite Campbell’s fun interviews, Detroit might have the worst roster in the NFL, which won’t be much fun. Talented rookie WR Jameson Williams should be fully healthy for this matchup, but that won’t be enough for this team to make much noise this year.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (6-2)
Week 9 @ Chicago Bears
Sunday, November 6 | 1:00 PM | Soldier Field
The Chicago Bears might be in a worse place than the Detroit Lions are. They have few true cornerstone players on either side of the ball. A young QB that needs lots of development. Chicago replaced former head coach Matt Naggy, who struggled to develop QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields, with defensive-minded head coach Matt Eberflus who will now be tasked with developing QB Justin Fields.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (7-2)
Week 10 vs Cleveland Browns
Sunday, November 13 |1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson will be suspended for ten games. That means when the Browns travel to south Florida for their game in Miami it will be QB Jacoby Brissett at the helm. Brissett was the Dolphins’ backup QB in 2021 playing in six games. Brissett had a 2-4 record in those games, although in the second win, he played just over half the game when he was benched, and injured QB Tua Tagovailoa took over and led the team for the win.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (8-2)
Week 11 – BYE WEEK
The Miami Dolphins will be well on their way to making a playoff appearance with an 8-2 record heading into their week off. During the first ten weeks, the Dolphins will be one of the hottest and most talked about teams in the leagues.
Week 12 vs Houston Texans
Sunday, November 27 | 1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
Take a look at the Lions’ roster. Take a look at the Bears’ roster. Now take a look at the Houston Texans roster. The Lions and Bears are almost certainly glad they aren’t the Texans. The only note-worthy players on that roster are WR Brandin Cooks, LT Laremy Tunsil, & rookie CB Derek Stingly Jr. whom Houston selected 3rd overall in this year’s NFL Draft. Houston’s roster rivals that of the 2019 Miami Dolphins as one of the worst rosters in modern-day football history. If the Texans don’t end up with the number one overall pick, something went terribly wrong for several teams.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (9-2)
Week 13 @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday, December 4 | 4:05 PM | Levi’s Stadium
The Miami Dolphins will be traveling to Santa Clara, California to take on the San Francisco 49ers. This will be the first, of hopefully many matchups between head coaches Kyle Shanahan and Mike McDaniel. Will McDaniel get the best of his former boss and friend? That very likely will come down to the development of San Francisco’s QB Trey Lance.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (10-2)
Week 14 @ Los Angeles Chargers
Sunday, December 11 | 4:05 PM | SoFi Stadium
In Week 14 the Miami Dolphins will be staying in California as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers. QB Tua Tagovailoa and QB Justin Herbert went 5 and 6 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Tua and the Miami Dolphins won their first matchup in 2020. Will Tua move to 2-0 or will Herbert even the score?
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (11-2)
Week 15 @ Buffalo Bills
Sunday, December 18 | TBD | Highmark Stadium
Again, until Miami can beat the Bills, this matchup has to be marked as a loss in a prediction. Having to go to Orchard Park, New York in the middle of December is not ideal either, especially as Tua has struggled in cold weather games.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Lose (11-3)
Week 16 vs Green Bay Packers
Sunday, December 25 | 1:00 PM | Hard Rock Stadium
The Miami Dolphins will face the Green Bay Packers at home on Christmas Day this year. Green Bay lost the best wide receiver in football this year in Davante Adams, but they still have future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers. Unless Green Bay struggles this year from losing Adams, it looks like it may be a sad Christmas for Dolphins fans
Game Prediction: Dolphins Lose (11-4)
Week 17 @ New England Patriots
Sunday, January 1 | 1:00 PM | Gillette Stadium
After two straight losses, the Miami Dolphins will look to get things back on track as they travel to New England for round two vs the Patriots. No matter what the national media may try and tell you, New England is not the same team without QB Tom Brady. And QB Mac Jones is not the second coming of Brady.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (12-4)
Week 18 vs New York Jets
Sunday, January 8 | TBD | Hard Rock Stadium
The New York Jets are the New York Jets. They have lost 10 of the last 12 games against Miami. It would be nine straight losses if it wasn’t for an egregious pass interference call against Miami’s cornerback Nik Needham with 42 seconds left in the game that led set up New York for a game-winning field goal.
Game Prediction: Dolphins Win (13-4)
13-4, It’s Time For The Playoffs Baby!!!
After missing the playoffs the past five seasons and not winning a playoff game since 2000, the Miami Dolphins will enter the 2022 postseason as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. After tearing things down in 2019, Miami has laid the blueprint on how to rebuild the right way. In 2020 and the second half of 2021 the Miami Dolphins had one of the best defenses in the league. With a now star-studded offense, Miami will secure a postseason berth. Just how deep of a run they will make is to be seen.
