This week’s MLB power rankings see a shakeup around the league for week 8 of the 2021 season. Who is the new number 1?
This week was a very crazy one! We saw 2 no-hitters in one week! We saw a 19 run game in Cincinnati, and we saw Albert Pujols hit a home run in a number 55 jersey for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Week 8 Power Rankings:
The gIants went on a terror this week and even put on an offensive show against the Reds. They sent 19 runners across home plate for a 19-4 win. The Giants are 8-2 in their last 10 games. The Giants have a very important week coming up playing the Dodgers and Diamondbacks to stay ahead of the pack in the NL West. This is why they have found their way into first place of this week’s power rankings.
San Diego has gone on a terror in their last 10 games losing only 1 game. They swept the Rockies and Cardinals to move upcast the Dodgers for 2nd place in the NL West. The offense has been on a terror even while Tatis Jr. was on the Covid list for 2 weeks. Kim and Profar have stepped up and played a huge role for the Padres to maintain a steady hold in the NL West top spots. The Padres are hot and coming on at just the right time.
The A’s have gone through a rough patch going 5-5 in their last 10 games. They lost their 1st place spot to the Houston Astros who have been on a terror as well. The Athletics have a very important division series coming up with the Mariners and Angels back to back. They will need to get back in shape to make up for their tough patch.
The White Sox have had a great week with wins over Minnesota, Kansas City, and another against Minnesota. Mercedes has been swinging the bat very well. Another good sign for Chicago is that it looks to be that Lucas Giolito is returning to Cy Young form. The White Sox play a series against the rivaled Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals.
The Red Sox saw a big drop in offensive production for a while but with series wins over the Angels and Blue Jays. The Red Sox have important games against the Phillies and Braves this week. They need to find a way to get back on track. That starts on the mound with Eovaldi on Saturday. If the Red Sox pitching staff can get things rolling everything else will fall into place behind.
After getting swept by the San Diego Padres the Cardinals car back to life and took both games from the division rival Pirates. With Arenado hitting .304 with 10 HR’s, and 31 RBI, all the Cardinals need is the pitching to get back to form and they will be back to a contending team.
The Dodgers are still in 3rd place in the NL West but have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games to move within 2 games of the 1st place Giants. With Albert Pujols gaining more playing time than most thought he would have, the more confident the future hall of fame will be. The Dodgers play 2 series against the Giants and 2 games against the Astros, if the Dodgers can take both series against the Giants, they will be right back where they belong, in the 1st place spot in the NL West.
With Boston struggling their last 10 games the Rays have quietly slipped past the Yankees into the 2nd place spot in the AL East. The Rays are riding a 7 game win streak and have seen all-around great baseball from the pitching and defense. The Rays have series with the Blue Jays and Royals this week to move up past the struggling Red Sox for the division lead.
The Astros have very quietly taken over the AL West and slipped past Oakland for the division lead by a half-game. The Astros are 8-2 in their last 10 games and the stars are heating up and returning to All-Star form. Correa and Altuve are coming up clutch when they are needed and Greinke and Mccullers Jr. have been pitching great as well. The Astros have a series against the Rangers in Arlington and 2 games set against the Dodgers at home.
The Yankees round out this week’s top ten in the Week 8 MLB power rankings. After Series wins over the Rays, Rangers, and Orioles, the Yankees have been finally finding their stride. Coming into the year many people expected the Yankees to run away with this division and they have been underwhelming most of the time, and now they are finally showing the team we all expected to be
